Doubt this and the AF447 flight issues are related. Two different models, one being rather old, design wise. What was pointed out in the article Earl posted was that this flight crew went to a power setting that was recommended; 83%, and when everything came back instrumentation wise, they were within 5 knots of desired airspeed. Bingo ! Basic airmanship. If you have any amount of experience in a given aircraft, you know at any given altitude and temperature, a given power setting will yield a specific airspeed, plus or minus a minimal amount. In other words, if the airspeed indicator fails, so what ? You should still be able to control the airplane with minimal effort. Just my thought.
