I use a filter, even though I am not on city water that is chlorinated. It knocks out that little hint of sulpher that shows up from time to time.

Speaking of sulpher in the water some of the small towns, and wells, in Monroe County Michigan had a very bad problem with that when I was in high school that the water was as black as coffee coming out of the tap at times,. The stink was nasty too.

In the Navy/Marines we chlorinated everything that held potable water supplies, except those iodine tablets we used for canteens. I spent alot of time making sure the proper levels of chlorine was maintained.

The best way to disinfect water IMHO is using the ozone method. It is clean, a lot safer, and doesn't have a nasty aftertaste.
