some of the wells around here get that sulpher stink too, fortunately, the water company I use has deep wells and the water tastes great. The only chemical they put in the water is chlorine, because it's mandated by the state.
I use bleach to wash my veggies, chicken & pork, all you do is rinse them, then I put them in a big stainles bowl, fill it with cold water, dump about a tbsp of bleach in, let it sit for no more than a minute, then rinse, rinse, rinse.
Your lettuce will stay crisp for 3 weeks in a ziplock bag after that, and it won't affect the flavor of your meats. I also drop a capful of bleach in my dish water.
