Sammie, we were talking about Muslims in the West who have fled all that crap. Or Muslims like those in Iraq who have been freed of recent tyranny and whose military and police are being trained to combat the terrorist elements. Remember, those Iraqi soldiers who we are training and who are fighting with us are by and large Muslim, also. The same for the Afghanis. Should we show those soldiers and police respect? They certainly don't want to see us killed!!!!

Anyway, most non-Muslims who are not fundamentalists would not be offended by irreverent depictions of religious symbols in some (but not all) contexts. Fundamentalists and almost all Muslims are, and so I tend to respect that. I agree with political correctness to the extent that I don't like to be offensive to anyone. I disagree with the fact that there has been such a backlash to typical, well-developed uniquely American self-depricating humor, that we are afraid to be funny at times. However, when large groups are offended based on a cultural trait, I respect that. Because I expect the same courtesy.
