He is an objectivist, but that doesn't mean someone has a strong intellect. His expertise was in theory and not actual application. Saying that the collapse of the housing bubble was due in large part by the disintegration of the Soviet Union is absolute absuridity and calls into question his intellectual capabilities. The Soviet Union ended in 1992, and had been falling apart since the mid-80's. It had absolutely nothing to do with the housing market. I just don't see how he connected those dots.
