Mike, I know.

I am just nostalgic for Manny Hanny, Chemical Bank, Seaman's Bank for Savings, and a load of others.

They're all gone, now. JP Morgan and Chase Manhattan are at least still alive in name, but, as you know, they aren't independent from each other anymore. However, notice how wise their management is in keeping separate store fronts, websites, and products. That is excellent management, as there is not too much overlap in customers. They consolidated where necessary, however, and have done very well.

Other than Seaman's, another grand savings bank that I miss is the East River Savings Bank in New York. It got swallowed up by HSBC. Even the Queens Country Savings Bank is part of the New York Community Savings Bank, which over the years has bought several of the smaller independents in the region.

It ain't the same.

And oh how I miss Eastern Airlines and Pan Am! Dammit!

And on and on............

Perstare et praestare. Per aspera ad astra.
