NEW YANKEE STADIUM PLANS BOW TO CRITICS
By LEELA DE KRETSER

January 31, 2006 -- Amended plans for the $800 million Yankee Stadium development were released yesterday, with Bomber bigwigs revealing a new proposal for adjacent parklands at the South Bronx site a concession likely to silence local critics.

Team President Randy Levine was joined by Borough President Adolfo Carrin in releasing the plans, which have sports fields and parks in a central corridor, rather than scattered around The Bronx.

Levine also promised that parks and recreation centers would be provided for residents while the stadium due for completion in 2009 is being built.

The present stadium will be replaced by a replica of the original 1920s building, said Levine.

Local residents had criticized the elimination of the popular Mullaly and Macombs Dam parks, which were to be replaced by small fields around The Bronx some on garage roofs.
