I was in Chicago this past week for a few days. It is one of my favorite towns in the world. I would love to spend some time there in retirement. Michigan Ave is a super place. In retirement, I would spend time there in the spring or summer. I am fortunate to be able to get there on business every so often.

Chicago truely is "America's City". I am a native New Yorker, but I always loved going to Chicago. I would take a job there if offered, although I would probably curse myself during the winter. In fact, weather aside, I think that the Midwest, and especially the upper Midwest, is a fabulous place. The Detroit - Chicago - Milwaukee corridor, as I call it, I think is a grand place. But Chicago is and always will be "America's CIty". I had a dinner at Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse (and had scrumpious fish, believe it or not!). Can't beat it.

I stayed at the Palmer House Hilton downtown. I don't know how they do it Their corporate rate is only $165/night. Compared to other cities in this country, that is excellent for a hotel of it's location and caliber. Another thing about Chicago is that you don't get price gouged like in many other cities, although the local taxes are through the roof.

Nanny, the list helps you because of quality of living issues. Anyway, I do not intend to stay in one place during retirement. I intend to live in different countries, much as I have done during my working life, and in different areas in the States. I will be semi-retired, but in this electronic world, one can live anywhere and be working anywhere else.

Perstare et praestare. Per aspera ad astra.
