John: I have long held that view, mostly supported by the usual media reports, but as my commentary points out, there is little evidence that Iran would bring worldwide condemnation and a likely all out war on itself. I no longer subscribe to the "they're crazy" theory as I formerly did. I think they want nukes for the same reason everyone else does, to ward off an attack. The anti-Israel and anti-US rhetoric is the mullah's way of keeping control of its population, but there are indicators that may not last. Populations throughout the area have risen up against their dictatorships and Iran is on the hit list too. Militarily, logistically, an Israeli attack, short of using its own nukes, would be difficult at best. And the US is in no mood for another shooting war. So, I am thinking this is just a lot of posturing for now.
