Whay a totally pessimistic, negative view of things. I am surprised the writer can force themselves to get out of bed every day to face the new challenges each day brings.

The problem that this writer doesnt seem to want to bring into focus is the role of the government in causing many of the problems he listed. Failure by the government since the 1970s to make this nation independent of Middle East oil, failure by the government for many years to address needs of the American people instead using funding in the form of pork/earmarks/whatever the next word for waste will be to get themselves reelected and become what the Founding Fathers never envisioned for this nation - career politicians. Rules and regulations passed by faceless bureaucrats who never have to worry about being elected that force many companies to jump through government hoops just to stay in business. Every roadblock the government can put in the way for this nation to prosper to make the nation more dependent on said government for handouts. See New Orleans for a prime example of that. People frozen in fear unable to help themselves screaming for someone in the government to come and save them and feed them and put them in a place to live.

New Orleans was a city hanging by its fingernails avoiding pending disaster after pending disaster until it finally fell victim to its natural position below sealevel and surrounded by water. When people live along rivers, creeks, streams, lakes and the like why are they suddenly surprised to find themselves flooded out? And many who do find themselves flooded out want the government to help them when all along they were the ones placing themselves and their livelihoods in peril by living where they live. I can feel sorry for people affected by natural disasters that are unexpected. But its hard to feel sorry for people who know the potential is there big time for a flood yet they choose to live there. Is it the fault of the American people we need to bail them all out? Should the government buy up all the land within the flood plains and forbid anyone to live there or have a business there??

The problem with what the writer is bringing out is the fact that too many people have now found themselves depending on the government which is the next step in this nation becoming a socialist nation. The individual is giving up their personal responsibilities and turning to the government for answers and handouts.

Is it too late for this nation to change and go back to being a nation that relies on people who pull themselves up on their own and inspire others to do the same? Or have we come to the point liberals have been longing for - a nation of people dependent on the government and unable to solve problems on their own? As I have said for some time - its time for a second war of independence for this nation - a war agains those who would enslove the American people for a political ideology. Do we give up our freedom or do we put up a fight? Do we go quietly into the night?
