Governor Steve Beshear calls the financial problems caused by the state pension system "ominous," comparing it to a runaway freight train or tsunami. The governor's remarks to a joint session of the legislature last night. The "Herald Leader" reports the governor says we "face a financial catastrophe, one that demands significant and immediate action." The lawmakers are in special session to act on a state pension reform. Lawmakers hope to complete their work by week's end.
