Sorry, but the combination of vinegar and baking soda does not make an acid. Vinegar itself is an acid (acetic acid) while the baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a base (quite the opposite of an acid). It may be the chemical interaction between the two as they neutralize each other that is doing the job for you.

I first learned of those two items back in my last year of grade school, when our teacher showed us how to put the two together to make what I can best call the poor man's version of soda pop.
