I don't know about NOW, but I know back in the 70s/80s, Grand Central Station in Manhattan had many muscians...at stragetic locations, when music was played ~ it would echo "far and wide"!

Maybe in this particular case, it was a thoroughfare ~ in between two busy destinations?

In The Station...people were waiting for trains, friends OR whatever! So, just because they weren't "upfront" (and personal)...the muscian could be heard ALL OVER (AND enjoyed)!
