SHREWSBURY, Pa. -- A York County mother said she bit into a pill while eating a fish filet she purchased at a local grocery store. Tracy Rowan, of New Freedom, said she had prepared the Gorton's Crispy Battered Fish Filets for herself and her children on Sunday. "While eating the fish Tracy bit into something hard. She thought it was a fish bone and when she pulled it out of her mouth she discovered it was actually a pill," stated a news release from the Southern Regional Police Department.
Police also said Rowan's son and daughter found pills in their fish. Rowan immediately contacted Gorton's and the Giant on Mount Airy Road in Shrewsbury, where she purchased the fish, according to police. Police said the Giant store immediately pulled the fish from its shelves. Giant Food Stores released the following statement regarding the incident:
"On Sunday, February 23, Giant Food Stores was contacted by a customer regarding a complaint that a Gorton's Fish Company product purchased at our Shrewsbury Store in York County contained a foreign substance. The product in question is Gorton's Fish Fillets, Medium Crispy Batter. The product was returned by the customer directly to Gorton's and is under investigation by Gorton's.
As a precaution and until the results of the investigation are known, Giant has pulled the product from the shelves at our Shrewsbury store. Customers, who may have purchased this product, can visit the store with a receipt for a full refund. Customers can contact Gorton's directly at 1-800-222-6846."
