Randall Haywood Kelley Sr., 70, of Bowling Green died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. Mr. Kelley was born April 23, 1941, in Hartford to the late Charles Kelley and Lowie Snodgrass Kelley. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, McClellan Kelley. Mr. Kelley was a 1959 graduate of Owensboro High School and served in the Vietnam War and retired as a SFC E-7 with the Army. During his service Mr. Kelley received several awards which include the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Commendation Medal, one Oak Leaf Cluster, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5th award), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm (Unit Citation) and Expert Rifle (M-16). Mr. Kelley retired from the Army Military Police in 1981 after 22 years of service. Following, he worked in nuclear security at Georgia Power Co. Later he served as CEO of Caveland Sanitation Authority in Cave City where he headed the project to provide waste water to Mammoth Cave National Park. He was also a Mason and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his longtime partner, Kay Brutger of Bowling Green; two sons, Murray and Pam Kelley of Albuquerque, N.M., and Randall and Wendi Kelley of Bowling Green; two daughters, Patricia Kelley of Big Rapids, Mich., and Sonja Kelley of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Brittany Kelley of Albuquerque, Jack Kelley of Bowling Green and Emma Kelley of Albuquerque; an aunt, Pauline Snodgrass of Morgantown; and a cousin, Gayline McGuyer of Morgantown.
A memorial service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with a private family graveside service Tuesday in Hartford. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
